PATRICIA O'BRIEN has lived in Martlesham Division for 30 years and has been a County Councillor for 16 years, representing the Colneis Division from 2001-2005 and Martlesham since 2005 following boundary changes.
Says Patricia: "My council work has been varied, providing me with a great deal of experience. From 2005-2009 I held Cabinet responsibility for Children’s Services and in 2011-2012 I served as Chairman of the County Council. Holding this office provided me with the opportunity to see the prodigious work that carried out by the people of this county and to recognise the evident pride for Suffolk.
"From 2009-2011 I was appointed to Police Authority which provided an insight into the responsibilities and complexities of policing the county. This has been of enormous value for I now chair the Police & Crime Panel that both challenges and supports the Police Commissioner.
"As your County Councillor I have dealt with many local issues, particular those relating to transport and the housing developments, which I continue to oppose. My locality budget has been spent on a variety of projects such as: a bus shelter, village hall repairs, fencing, road cones, a parish newsletter and playground equipment. My County Councillor Local Highways budget has works in progress on schemes such as: road widening, footway improvement and signage.
Until May 2015 Patricia was also the district councillor for Nacton Ward and while serving on Suffolk Coastal, she was Cabinet member for Health & Well-being (from 2000 to 2005).
